WMU Design Center was prompted to make a series of posters that drives applications for the graphic design program at Frostic School of Art, Western Michgan University. The posters are required to include the slogan “Bring! Evolving! Show it!” and program application information, with high degree of creative liberty. Each senior graphic design student is tasked to make one poster design.
The main concept behind this specific design is to create a site-specific, three-dimensional poster for the 2nd floor of Richmond Center for Visual Arts, near the administration office. This hallway serves as a nexus point of foot-traffic going to and from Kohrman Hall, which houses fundation art courses. The target audience are 1st year art students who may be interested to apply for the graphic design program, so this location is appropriate for maximizing exposure to the intended audience.
The 45 degree slant and folding around the corner of the wall adds an unique silhouette to the posters, also allowing die cut elements of the poster to be reliefed off the surface. The dimensionality of the posters will generate curiosity, and leave a strong impression of the endless possibilities and the evolution of graphic design to go beyond traditional form.![]()
The poster series will then repersent the diverse, eclectic, expansive nature of the graphic design program, while providing individual designers the opportunity to showcase their unique design direction and skills.
