My first project as an in-house graphic designer for the Theatre Guild is the alumni banner series. For this project, WMU Theatre Guild commissioned me to make a series of banners that celebrate past alumni from the Department of Theatre. The banners needed to incorporate primary portrait, quote, and short biography from each alumnus. The design also needed to adhere to Western Michigan University’s visual guidelines, to include color palettes and typography.

The key concept for the banners was to create a moving, vibrant flow of information that reflects the dynamic energy in music and theatrical arts.

The wave and ribbons elements also connect the adjacent banners and form a continuous stream. In contrast to the geometric shapes in early sketches, the final layout is more organic and humanist.
